Dopamine, Our Motivator - Debunking Free Will #1

Someone's personality is their identity. How people take decision is largely dependent on what their personality is, i.e. if they are shy, agressive, extrovert, introvert etc. So if your personality is controlled by factors that you have no control over, that suggests that the decisions you make are not under your control either, at least not completely. I'll now try to explain you how your personality is determined not by your decisions but factors that you have no control over. So here I won't be able to cover as to how you don't have a free will at all. But I should be able to convince you that your decisions are laregly determined by agencies/factors that you have no control over. Also, I'd like to thank Matt Ridley, who wrote the book "Genome", from which most of the following knowledge has been taken. Dopamine   Dopamine is a chemical presnet in neural pathways. It helps in communication between neurons. Dopamine is the motivational chemical of our b...

Should Criminals be Punished?

In my last blog, I talked about how we don't really have a free will. I would recommend you to check that blog before reading this one. If Free Will doesn't exist then doesn't that mean that every criminal is himself a victim of factors that he doesn't have any control over? Wouldn't that mean that no criminal can be held morally accountable for his/her crimes and hence does not deserve to be punished? I believe that no person should be held morally accountable for his/her crimes but at the same time, I also believe that although a criminal is himself a victim of circumstances (meaning that his/her decision of committing crime was influenced by every external and internal influence he/she got in his lifetime which are not under his/her control) he/she should still be punished (legally). Are criminals bad? Let's imagine a case about a guy accused of raping and murdering 10 women and 2 children in a week. How do you feel about him? Are you angry at him? Do you wa...

Does "Free Will" exist?

For most people the question whether free will exists or not is very absurd and stupid.  Isn't it obvious that everyone takes independent decisions all the time? I decided to write this blog because I have a free will, and I could have simply decided not to write it, or could I? Do I really have an authority over my decisions? Could I really have done something in the past differently?  NO What is free will? Free will is the ability to take decisions independently. Free will is the belief that you have authority over what you do. Also, that you could have done something differently in the past, like you could have had sandwich instead of omelette this morning. Why does free will not exist?  I believe free will is humanity's biggest illusion, the biggest hoax there is. The belief that you could have done something in the past in a different way is wrong. Everything you did or happened could not have been done in a different way. Let's understand this with an example, Suppo...
